Brad Dixon

Profile: Brad Dixon

I started competing in triathlons in the late 1980’s at high school. I was part of Dr. John Helleman’s triathlon academy based in Christchurch in the early 1990’s and had the pleasure to train with some world class athletes. At my final year at high-school I placed 10th in the triathlon secondary school national champs and 4th at the duathlon champs. In 1995 I won my age group (15-19yrs) at the Motorola Powerman Duathlon. During university studing physiotherapy I trained and competed at the World long distance champs (half IM) placing 6th in my age group. My greatest triathlon buzz was competing at the Hawaiian Ironman in 1999.

I started coaching some mates in 2005 and loved helping them reach their goals. I have since gained my level 2 accreditation with Tri NZ. Life is exciting balancing my training, sports physiotherapy, and coaching career with the ultimate team coaching role – bringing up my two beautiful daughters Eva and Stella (7 and 5 years old) alongside my wife Coral.

I’m a big believer in walking my talk! I eat a predominantly whole food plant based diet, complete functional strength work daily, while blending my swimming, cycling, and running with my physiotherapy, and family life. Keeping the balance is crucial to maintaining the joy in life.

I have a real interest in blending the training plan with athlete’s lifestyles so the training is a positive stress rather than a chore. With my sports physiotherapy knowledge I enjoy managing niggles and injuries and talking about healing time-frames so the athlete has an ongoing training/rehabilitation plan while allowing healing and fitness gains. My latest passion is nutrition and how morphing towards a more wholefood plant based diet can aid performance and recovery. I am a great believer in walking your talk so am continuing to experiment with nutrition and training to become the very best I can be.
