A reflection from Lachlan Haycock
Over the past summer, I have been lucky enough to be backed by the Triathlon Tauranga Club, and in return, I have tried to get involved in as many club nights as possible. I constantly helped out at the Youth sessions every Wednesday afternoon. I found these sessions super interesting, and it was amazing to watch these young kids progress each week.
Following the Youth sessions, I would set out for a training with the academy/adults, while also occasionally signing up for the clubs awesome Aquathlons and TT cycle races.
Finally on the 16th of March, I set off to put this training to use and test myself at the NZSS Triathlon Champs in Nelson, followed by the OTU Oceania Junior Champs in New Plymouth only 6 days later. I came away from both races with a lot of positives and negatives, and I now look forward to a strong winter of training, where I hope I can come back even stronger for next summer! The Triathlon Tauranga Club deserves a huge thank you for everything they have done to help all the club members race the way they did.
While also a massive shout out is needed to my Coach Chris Willett for all his hard work for both myself and all the other racers, as well Craig Kirkwood and Andrew Lloyd for there commitment to the Youth sessions & also Andrew's ongoing work in the Academy and Youth.
